Q&A With Blueprint Tokyo
Jun. 05, 2021
Hi Kevin, so where did you grow up and where do you call home now?
I grew up just outside of Oklahoma City. Today I am In Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada. Andy lives in Oklahoma City.
How long have you been making music?
My first performance was on the piano in the second-grade talent show. I’d still like to find a copy of that.
Do you make the music by yourself, or collaborate with other musicians?
Andy is in Oklahoma and I am in Canada, so we've been doing everything remotely.
How did you and Andy meet?
20 years ago I ran into Andy and we have been playing together ever since.
In what genre would you categorize your music?
I would say alternative, pop-rock, and indie rock.
What can you tell us about your latest release, "Panic Carefully"?
I can tell you I became very emotional working on this song. My father is a veteran of war and the price of war sometimes is having to relearn how to have a normal life when you come home. I suffer from General Anxiety and Panic Disorder, so this song came out like a therapy session for me. I hope the story resonates with the listener.
Who are some other artists you have been compared to?
A few comparisons are Chris Cornell, David Bowie, The Cars, Glen Fry, and Kings of Leon.
What first got you into music?
I had the choice of a drum set or a keyboard as a kid. I got a keyboard, which led to a guitar, and here I am.
Who inspired you to make music?
My Dad and his oldies stations I grew up listening to.
What are some of your favorite albums of all time?
Wolfgang Amadeus by Phoenix, Weezer, The Get Up Kids - On a Wire.
What is your favorite show you ever played?
I got to open for an artist I loved as a kid. He was kind and uplifting.
How would you describe the music that you typically create?
What is your creative process like?
I try and create the right mindset for whatever I'm working on. Songs come all different ways. Sometimes it's a good riff or a lyric. Sometimes I’m just trying to get this emotion I’m feeling in the moment out of me.
Are there hidden meanings in any of your songs?
What’s next for you?
We are enjoying the writing and recording process we are currently in. We will continue to do that and release new music.
