Q&A With Souvlaki

Feb. 19, 2021
In what genre would you categorize your music?
Very hard question, I would say generic electronic music, not dance or house music, closer to ambient and downtempo.
What can you tell us about your latest album “Continued Survival”?
This was my second album and it was released in January 2021. It’s mainly instrumental except for the two featuring with Deborah Grandi (Isolation) and Slim Gong (7LUNGS). It was written in about 6 months in 2019, but then I had to wait several months before being ready to record it; the album is quite more intimate with respect to “Tracks”. In the end I’m quite satisfied with the outcome and the featuring with Slim Gong was super cool also because it was the first time we worked together. We met first during the recording session and in few days Slim worked out the great vocal line you can listen in the song. About Deborah, what I can say is that the vocal line of Isolation was written at her first listening during practice in the 2019!
What is your creative process like?
I mainly write my songs in my office during lunch breaks, I compose everything using my laptop and when I need some vocal lines, I get in touch with the right singer based on the song’s mood. With Deborah happens quite often since she is with me from my first gig and with her we rearrange the songs for the live set, so usually during rehearsal if I need something I only need to ask. As for the recordings I’ve always worked with Simone at the La Buca Recording Club; he’s also with me since the first release (Loss). It’s kind of a collective, or at least this is what it was in my mind!
