Q&A with Yelgo7
Where did you grow up, and where do you call home now?
I grew up in Saudi Arabia, but for now I consider Brooklyn to be my home because it is where I took my music to the next level.
How long have you been making music?
I have been making music for a year thus far.
Do you make music by yourself, or collaborate with other musicians?
I write & rap, but I collaborate with different producers depending on which genre of music I am working on.
What can you tell us about your latest release?
My latest track was the first EDM song I ever wrote and did vocals for, and I find it to be really upbeat and energetic for anyone looking to jam, work out, or live it up now!
What first got you into music?
I was going through a tough time personally on many levels, and I remember coming across a track called “23 Freestyle” for Bazanji, a rapper who was a dental student at the time. It inspired me because I had just finished nursing school, wanted to start making music, and had no better skill than writing about my life in bars.
Who inspired you to make music?
Logic, NF, Bazanji, Jay Z, J. Cole, Kygo, and Marshmello
What is your creative process like?
It really varies depending on the kind of track I’m writing. For the most part, I find a beat I like and think of things I wanna share that would complete the beat. Other times, I’ll write a song on an instrumental or without and try to have a beat made that would go well with the lyrics.
Is there a hidden meaning in any of your songs?
There are always hidden meanings in my songs, but my upcoming single “Childhood” will have the most out of all my songs since it’s a very personal track!
What is the best advice you've been given?
The best advice I’ve been given was to basically try all sorts of genres and songs since I’m a new artist, and even if one genre seems to fit me better, I should keep trying everything else I have interest in!
What's next for you?
After releasing “Childhood,” which will be my most real hip hop track, I plan on releasing more songs that incorporate a mixture of the three languages that I speak, which are Arabic, English, & Spanish through different genres of music.
